About CapeTalk
CapeTalk is Primedia Broadcasting's Cape Town talk station, and one of the few significant South African stations still broadcasting on medium wave rather than FM.
It tells listeners to tune in on 567 MW, and describes a footprint running from Elands Bay to Gansbaai, taking in the City of Cape Town, the Boland, the Overberg and parts of the West Coast. That AM signal is the reason the coverage area is so large — medium wave travels further and follows terrain better than FM, which is exactly why it suited a region of mountains and coastline before FM transmitter networks were affordable. It is also why the audio is narrower than you may expect from a modern station.
Programming is conversation-driven: news bulletins, interviews, phone-ins and current-affairs discussion, with journalism from the Eyewitness News team Primedia shares across its stations.
