About LM Radio

LM Radio takes its name from Lourenco Marques Radio, which began in 1936 broadcasting by shortwave to South Africa and Rhodesia and was closed in 1975 by the government of newly independent Mozambique. The present station states that it was granted a commercial broadcasting licence by ICASA and went on air in July 2017. It operates from Wessel Road in Rivonia, Sandton, with a second base in Maputo, and says it broadcasts on 702 AM across Gauteng and parts of Mpumalanga and the Free State, on 87.8 FM in Maputo and surroundings, on DAB+ in Gauteng, on DStv channel 821 and OpenView 602, and through web streaming and its own mobile apps. The format is nostalgic adult contemporary covering hits from the 1960s to the early 2000s, with artist interviews, music history features, news and sport.
